Youth Alive
The Story That Is Possible
2019

Concept

This film follows violence interrupters in Oakland. These are the people who stand in the middle of danger so others don’t have to. You see them in schools, on the streets and in living rooms where conflict can grow fast. Their work is simple on paper but heavy in real life. They listen, they deescalate and they show up again the next day.

The documentary looks at the pressure they carry and the hope they protect. It shows how safety is built by people, not slogans. My role was directing and editing the film with Seven Wu. We spent time with the team, watched how they move and tried to capture the quiet moments that explain why their work matters. I filmed and edited this piece with Seven Wu
